There are flights from Bandung to Jakarta, Surabaya, and other destinations. There is a taxi monopoly at the Bandung airport and one may be forced to pay at least rp30000 for what should be a rp15000 ride. Agents:
Angot Means ankutan kota -- very convenient minibuses that run around the city and stop anywhere. Major routes operate non-stop and others stop running at 6pm or 10pm. Fares from rp300-1200. Generally rp1000. Bandungexpat recommends sitting up front if possible. Regular trains service Bandung from Jakarta and Central Java. 1st class is rp65000 and 2nd class is rp45000 to Jakarta. There are first-class-only trains called Argo Gede rp75000. Tickets may be booked in advance for a small fee at the train station and some other agents. Also, see some Jakarta train schedules. Busses Inter-city busses service the main terminals of:
Taxis These are some of the better companies, the drivers will generally use the meters which are quite reasonable.
If you call to order the taxi, the driver should always use the meter. Some drivers will refuse to use the meter. The fare must be negotiated before starting the journey to avoid problems. Generally it's rp10000 within the city. As of 2/2/2001, meter fares have increased around 40%. The drive may have a chart for the new fares. Short-term rental cars with driver are an even nicer albeit more expensive alternative. Rental cars Look in newspaper Pikiran Rakyat classified ads under "Rental". Some also charge by the hour. Liability is greatly reduced if one uses a chauffeur. A new Kijang may cost rp150000000. Do you really want to be responsible for that much? The rental place will also ask for all kinds of papers to be held as a guarantee if you're not using a chauffer.
Shared taxi (Travel )
(need more info) Good way to get to Pangandaran or an outlying address in Jakarta. They pick-up and drop-off where you tell them too. You may spend a long time circling the city if you're first on or last off. Gypsy cabs (Taksi gelap) Some private cars will pick up inter- and intra-city passengers for fee. If shared, the price is comparable to taking a bus. If chartered, think taxi prices. A shared car, to Garut for instance, may be much nicer than piling into a big bus. Plus, you will always have a seat. Ships State-run PELNI does big ferries from Jakarta with 5 classes of service. Food is included but is not very good. Bring supplements.
