Banks and ATMs are plentiful. Cirrus and other international networks work well. Banks close Saturday and Sunday and many services are not available in the afternoon, so it's better to go in the morning.

Be careful of your credit and debit card information. To reduce the chance of fraud, it may be safer to get cash from an ATM than to give ones credit card to shops. Employees from banks have also stolen people's card info and used it fraudulently. It is always important to monitor one's financial accounts and not let things get out of hand when defrauded.

Credit cards and bank accounts that can be administered via Internet are the most convenient. Pc-to-phone services like iconnecthere can also be used to call your banks.

US Dollars must be in perfect, uncirculated condition with no marks, folds, rips, etc. to be accepted at full value.

To open rupiah accounts, some banks require a residency permit from foreigners. All will require some ID (like passport photocopy). The tax on interest is 15% for residents and 20% for non-residents.
