This is a challenge. Naturally, a good, cheap house in a nice area is unlikely to be empty.

There are some housing agents for high-end houses. There are some rooming-house agents for the low end rooms that students might need. For a reasonable middle-class house, one probably has to walk around the areas that one like looking for houses that seem empty and ask around.

People to help you with your house are usually available. Guards, maids, laundresses, drivers, may be helpful. Ask around your neighborhood. They don't have to be live-in. Remember, the minimum wage is around rp6000/day. Use the Unclassified Ads on this site to post requirements. The bulletin board outside Toko Setiabudi is also a popular place for postings.

The city is divided by the railroad tracks which run east-west. The northern part of the city has traditionally been the more elite area.
